Most of the major advances in history and art have been concurrent with major advances in technology. We could probably argue cause-and-effect all day over which came first, but it seems the biggest disrupters in tech and art have overturned the norms to amazing positive, progressive effect, while simultaneously destroying many older modes of thought and process.
