Private Residence

Created by soaking and freezing the paper, then skating through paint across its surface, this work emerged through a process that initially felt counterintuitive. I was entering a space that challenged the traditional flow and rules of painting, allowing movement, chance, and physical memory to guide the work rather than a predetermined image.

Using the memory of the skate blade as a mark-making tool, I moved across the frozen surface, allowing paint and ice to melt, shift, and interact with the paper. The process became the deliberate movement of skater balance against the unpredictable nature of melting ice and flowing paint.

As the work developed, the surface began to hold traces of the experience itself. Tears in the paper, fragments of debris gathered from the pond, layers of paint, and subtle marks left by the skate blade became embedded within the image. What began as an unconventional approach to painting became a record of movement, memory, and environment.
